Aloo/Arwi chaat for Janmashtami celebrations
Ingredients Required
Potatoes or Arwi
Tamarind (Imli in Hindi)
Curd
Cumin seeds
Red dry chillies
Dry ginger powder
Jaggery or sugar
Salt
Chaat masala,
Chilli powder
Procedure
Firstly, you need to soak imli or tamarind in water overnight. Next day remove the seeds and mash properly. In order to make the sweet and sour sauce, take this pulp and add sugar or jaggery to it. Besides, ginger and pinch of salt should be added too. And the tamarind pulp is ready to be used. If you want to keep this sauce for a week, you should boil it for until one thread consistency is reached and keep it in airtight jar. Keep it aside.
In another pan, roast cumin seeds along with dry chillies. When it starts to turn brown put them on a plate. Crush it with a rolling pin or simply grind it in mixer. This masala can be kept for days. Now, sprinkle this on the tamarind sauce that you have made. Next boil the potatoes or arwi. Dice them and place them on serving bowl. Put the roasted cumin seed masala, chaat masala, a bit of curd and tamarind sauce and the aloo/arwi chaat or aloo-arwi chaat is ready to be served.
